5: Moving Forwards
So, had a good weekend and managed to be quite well-behaved on the food front. To be fair though, this is mainly because I didn’t go anywhere so I wasn’t exposed to any temptations! I was mentally exhausted at the end of last week so I stocked-up and stayed in all weekend (apart from a short expedition to the bin store).
Did well, still not used my treadmill though so I guess I didn’t do well after all. Will try extra-hard this evening, maybe whilst I watch Love Island and see which islander is over-reacting today (apologies, need tv like this for complete anti-work non-stress related escape).
Still on with the vegetables, adding things like couscous and lentils because apparently this helps with cholesterol. Also, apart from some salt on my eggs the other day I’ve managed to keep away from that as well. I only had maybe 3 turns of the salt-mill rather than the usual (can’t admit how many). Interestingly my body seemed to react badly to a sudden rush of salt, even that small amount. When I woke up this morning I felt like I’d been wandering through the desert, and I drank extra water before I went to bed and everything.
Working from home today and also tomorrow (liver scan tomorrow – joy!). Back at client office from Wednesday though, so need to avoid those croissants on the way in. As mentioned before this does at least gvie me some walking and stairs. Even though it’s in central London and flat it’s still walking so still good and better than nothing.
Something else I’ve worked out with all this is that the food shop isn’t costing me any more. I reckon because I’m eating normal food rather than radically changing to full vegan or something, it shouldn’t increase this cost for me. I did try sort of vegan a few years ago following a macrobiotic consultation, and it was great, enjoyed all the food etc. but at that time the vegan options in supermarkets were very limited, so you had to shop in specialsit shops, which made it quite expensive. Things have come a long way in recent years though, so your usual supermarkets all have good ranges of vegetarian or vegan stuff.
Don’t think I’m there yet, but we’ll see. I don’t know much about food science and how it affects our biology, but I do know I need protein, so I’m having bits of chicken or fish to bolster those levels. Also have proscuito on my scrambled eggs – have done this for years to give me the salt hit without the salt (didn’t work the other day, but generally does!).
Oh, and I created a yummy breakfast-brunch concoction. Toast with tomatoes, mushrooms and leeks with an egg on top. Was nicer than it sounds!
Still pushing, still trying.
